Stoke owners promise 'major overhaul' and admit to 'significant errors' in the transfer market

sbobet asian Stoke City owners Peter and John Coates have responded to the club's relegation from the Premier League, admitting to "significant errors" in the transfer market and promising a "major overhaul" in the summer. After ten years in the top flight, Stoke were relegated on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the Bet365 Stadium. Some Stoke players have since expressed their unhappiness with goings-on at the club - Jack Butland described their recruitment as "farcical", while Charlie Adam said some of the squad had been "getting away with murder".

In a statement released on the club's website, the Coates' said: "The 2017/18 season has been a bitter disappointment to us all. Everybody at the club, including ourselves, are deeply hurt and frustrated at relegation. "Hindsight is a wonderful vantage point, however, it is clear that significant errors were made in the transfer market. "There was a desire from all of us at the club to improve the quality of the football we played, both in terms of entertainment and league position, and players were brought to the club that it was felt had the ability to help us achieve our collective aim.

"Unfortunately the squad became unbalanced and perhaps we lost some of the core values that have served us so well and are so crucial when you have a bad spell. "It is absolutely clear that a major overhaul is required. We need to regain our identity and focus and the summer will be spent doing this." As well as admitting to errors in player recruitment, the Coates' have also conceded they should have replaced Mark Hughes as manager sooner. The Welshman was sacked in January following a defeat to fourth-tier Coventry in the FA Cup and poor results in the league which left the club facing a relegation battle. sbobet asian

The owners said: "It is right that supporters will question whether we should have made a managerial change sooner. "As a family we are inherently loyal people and this loyalty has served us well in business. We will always give people that little bit longer than most to prove themselves and this will continue. "However, this does not mean that we always make the correct call and again with hindsight, we perhaps should have made an earlier change." Paul Lambert succeeded Hughes, but the statement makes no reference to his future at the club. Sky Sports News understands the owners have been impressed with Lambert's ability to organise the side, but remain concerned about his record of just one win in 15 matches since taking charge. sbobet asian

Liverpool transfer rumours: Rhian Brewster, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita

wwwpic5678 Clubs are circling around Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, as we round up the latest rumours on Monday, May 14. Reports in the Sunday Telegraph over the weekend suggested that Borussia Monchengladbach were in pole position to sign the highly rated young Liverpool striker. However, there appears to have been a twist in this story, with The Times claiming that Tottenham have now moved ahead of the Bundesliga club in the race for the player's signature.

Meanwhile, there was worrying news for the Merseysiders in Don Balon. The Spanish publication claim that Liverpool have promised free-scoring forward Mohamed Salah that he will be allowed to join European champions Real Madrid next season if he helps the club to win the Champions League later this month. The Egypt international - who only moved to Anfield from Roma last summer - has just finished as the top scorer in the Premier League after finding the back of the net on 32 occasions in the top flight. wwwpic5678

And finally, there was some good news for Jurgen Klopp and Co over the weekend after it emerged the club will have to only fork out £52.75m for dynamic midfielder Naby Keita this summer. Liverpool agreed a deal for the Guinea international in August, however, after RB Leipzig finished the Bundesliga campaign in sixth place, the original fee was reduced from £59m. wwwpic5678

Report outlines concerning development for Liverpool regarding Nabil Fekir pursuit

sbobet asian Liverpool will be desperate to secure a deal for the Frenchman. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool's deal to sign Lyon ace Nabil Fekir has stalled, and is unlikely to be completed before the start of the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The France international was reportedly on the verge of joining the Reds yesterday, after the club's medical staff jetted to Paris to meet Fekir and oversee his medical. The Daily Mail now claim that Liverpool's deal to sign Fekir will not go through before the World Cup kicks off, in news that will be greeted with great unease on Merseyside.

sbobet asianThe British newspaper goes on to suggest that there have been unsubstantiated claims that there were problems with the 24-year-old's medical, but Liverpool have not responded to those claims.

Fekir was in sensational form for Lyon last season, chalking up 23 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions, with all of those coming from an attacking midfield role.

The France international will undoubtedly take Liverpool to another level, but a deal to bring him to Anfield is far from being finalised, and that will leave the Reds fans feeling uneasy to say the least.

There is still plenty of time to get a deal for the Lyon star over the line, sbobet asian however, and given the 24-year-old's desperation to join Liverpool, it is hard to envisage a scenario where he doesn't move to Merseyside this summer.
